The safety of construction sites must be taken seriously. The challenges that come with this profession aren't always easily noticed. In some cases, there are risks that can't be removed, but they must still be addressed.

It is imperative that all construction companies take the time to figure out what they can do improve the safety of their workers. This might mean thinking outside of the box to figure out how to address the things that can harm employees.

High turnover rates

The construction industry has a high turnover rate. New workers can pose a hazard because they don't know about some of the safety procedures that other workers might use automatically. People who are new to the company, even those with previous construction experience, should be taught all of the safety procedures used by the current employer. If the new hires already know the information, the training period is a refresher course.

No new employees should be allowed to start working without this training. Even though it takes time, making sure they know the basics can improve safety for that worker and others on the job site.

Improper risk perception

As workers have been on the job for a while, they might become desensitized to some of the smaller and more common hazards. This is dangerous because they stop taking basic safety precautions that could prevent accidents. One unsafe worker can be a risk for everyone else on the job site.

Often, all workers on the job site are aware of the big hazards, such as safety around heavy equipment. They can easily see these dangers. This might not be the case with things like ladder safety because they think that they are inherently safe since they've been climbing a specific way without getting hurt . This is where the perception of risk comes in. If a worker doesn't think that he or she will be injured, they won't worry about following the proper procedures exactly as they should.

Lax communication

Communication among workers and supervisors has to be open at all times. When there are evident or unavoidable hazards, they need to be addressed by the supervisors. Workers should be able to let them know about hazards, and supervisors should be able to relay a plan for minimizing the risk they pose.
