The trucking accident on the New Jersey Turnpike last year that killed two passengers and permanently injured the comedian Tracy Morgan, are directly related to concessions by Congress to the trucking industry.

Deaths from truck-involved crashes have risen four years in a row. If past trends hold true more people will be killed in traffic accidents involving large trucks this year than have died in all of the domestic commercial airline crashes over the past 45 years.

Even so, Congress (due to lobbying from the American Trucking Associations) has taken the following steps to curtail safety improvements ordered by federal regulators:

  • It has declined Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration from investing in wireless technology designed to improve the monitoring of drivers and their vehicles;
  • It has expressed willingness to allow longer and heavier trucks despite widespread public opposition;
  • Congress also wants to lower the minimum age for drivers of large trucks that are allowed to travel from state to state to 18, from 21.

The Trial Attorneys at the Law Firm of Keogh Crispi, PC are committed to improving the safety of the roadways by holding the trucking industry accountable for acts of negligence, by obtaining fair and just money damages in compensation for those suffering serious personal injuries. Our proven track record of successful lawsuits bears this out.
